During 2008, MOAH held its Summer Camp program once again, and Brandon was a staff member.

Projects included building metal detectors, creating a music video, building a trebuchet, and creating Mindstorms robots.

Japanese

I have taken Japanese in 9th, 10th, and 11th grades.

In junior year, I went on a school-sponsored trip to Japan for a week. I stayed with a Japanese host family in Hamamatsu for most of the week. They spoke some English and I had only my classroom Japanese skills to draw on. I visited many historic sites on the main island with that family, then continued with my classmates to visit Kyoto and Tokyo.

Attached is a presentation given in 2005 on "Combinatorial Search in Hex Game".

In the 8th grade and 9th grade my dad created a computer curriculum and we studied it every Saturday. Topics included C++ and Java programming, data structures, object-oriented design, databases, and web applications. Textbooks used included: Core Java 2, by Horstmann and Cornell (Prentice-Hall, 1999), and Visual C++ In Record Time by Holzner (1998), Computer Games by Hartnell (1989), and Core Servlets and JavaServer Pages by Hall (Prentice-Hall, 2000)

The CERT organization in Palo Alto is called "PANDA": Palo Alto Neighborhood Disaster Awareness.

I qualified for the team in January 2007, and completed training in February 2007.

The training curriculum included:

  • Emergency medical procedures
  • Triage
  • Radio protocols
  • Fire suppression
  • Search and rescue
  • Earthquake procedures including helping people trapped under rubble
  • Disaster psychology
  • Team organization

At Menlo School, May 2006. I was the stage manager.

This production was also held in the front oval courtyard, but facing the trees rather than Stent Hall. The lighting including two light towers and special accent lights in the trees, a lighted paper "moon" in the trees, and smoke effects.
